New car park for Midland Mainline at Sheffield Railway Station

Midland Mainline appointed Pulmann Associates to work with Hill Cannon Partnership on this new 700 Space multi-storey car park that falls within the new "Sheffield One"regeneration area. The strong vertical emphasis of the building is drawn from the tall buildings which surround the site.

The treatment of the walls is kept simple with a bold plinth gauged as stonework in coloured concrete and a strong parapet coping of double brickwork bands and an extravagant overhanging coping.

Between these elements sit facing brick panels with recessed margins together with steel ventilation/balustrade grilles, which on 3 sides are powder coated to match the curtain wall glazing of the stair towers.

On the Suffolk road elevations we have incorporated 4 artwork grille panels in curved stainless steel featuring a series of spheres pushing through the grilles to form a 3 dimensional effect. As part of the scheme there are two retail units fronted by a paved concourse that sit below the ‘public art feature’ panels on Suffolk Road.

Construction is due for completion in September 2002.
